Resident Spotlight: Linda Austin
There’s a certain warmth that radiates from Renaissance Assisted Living resident Linda Austin—a gentle presence that makes you feel instantly at ease. Born on Christmas Eve, 1949, in Washington, D.C., Linda’s life has been a steady thread of caring for others, sharing kindness, and making meaningful memories—whether with family, friends, students, or the pets she cherishes.
Linda grew up close to her sister, Dianne Quinn, and that early bond shaped a lifelong devotion to family. Today, Dianne lives in Culpeper, but their connection remains strong. Linda’s heart only grew as she became a mother herself—her two sons, Tim and Michael Ridley, have been a source of pride and happiness through every chapter of her life.
Linda’s gift for nurturing others shone brightest in her career as an educator. She earned her bachelor’s in education from both James Madison University and the University of Virginia, then poured more than 40 years into teaching kindergarten through third grade with Fairfax County Public Schools. From 1971 until her retirement in 2012, she touched the lives of countless children and families. Her patience, gentle encouragement, and unwavering care made a lasting difference for so many, and her stories from those years are still a joy to hear.
Animals have always had a special place in Linda’s heart. Her dogs, Levi and Lilly, and her cat, Maddie, have been loyal companions, sharing in her everyday joys and quiet moments alike. Linda also finds peace outdoors, especially on long walks or at the beach—her favorite place. There, with the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun, Linda feels truly at home.
Those who know Linda describe her as warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. She brightens every room with her caring smile and gentle spirit. Whether reminiscing about her teaching days, sharing stories about her family and pets, or enjoying a stroll in the fresh air, Linda brings kindness and grace wherever she goes.
