Renaissance Assisted Living resident Sarah Jane Mitchell was born on March 26, 1941, in Brightwood, Virginia. She grew up in a loving, happy home, where the simple joys of life set the foundation for the person she is today. Her family worked side by side, growing much of their own food and coming together each day to share meals made with care—nurturing the kindness, gratitude, and joy that define Sarah Jane’s spirit.

In 1960, Sarah Jane married her beloved Bill Mitchell. Their sixty-two years together were a testament to deep love, devotion, and the beauty of a true partnership. They raised three children—Billy, now an English teacher; Rob, an Art teacher; and Marty, a State Farm Claims Adjuster. Sarah Jane takes immense pride in her children and has always offered them steadfast encouragement, faith, and unconditional love.

Her career began at Armentrout Insurance, and she later spent twenty-five dedicated years with Second Bank and Trust. Sarah Jane’s reliability, work ethic, and warm personality earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike throughout her professional life.

Known by all for her genuinely happy nature and calm, positive spirit, Sarah Jane never lets frustration get the best of her. Mornings often start with a good cup of coffee; afternoons are spent outdoors when the weather's warm, soaking up the sun and fresh air she loves so much. She finds satisfaction in staying active, often tending to her flower beds or sweeping sidewalks—always eager to lend a hand and keep her surroundings beautiful.

A true lover of nature, Sarah Jane finds special joy in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Her faith anchors her, and her church family at Rose Park United Methodist Church is deeply dear to her. Sarah Jane’s life shines as an example of quiet strength, compassion, and grace—a wonderful woman of faith, a devoted wife, and a much-loved mother.

We are deeply honored to have Sarah Jane as part of our community. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit are a blessing to all who know her.

Social connection plays a powerful role in protecting mental and emotional well-being as we age, yet it is often one of the first things to fade when seniors live alone.
